Mary Frances Bogle

Over the years
As we grow old,
We remember our father
So brave and bold.

In the garden,
Leaning on the plow,
He would listen to me;
I see him now.

He would give advice
And understand;
He was always there
To lend a hand.

God made fathers
Strong and firm,
For he knew our lives
Would have great concerns.

So he gave us fathers
To teach us to pray,
And guide our lives,
And show us the way.

So on his day
Let's take the time
To say "Thanks, dad.
I'm glad you're mine."

Pastors    Letter and Notes

Dear members and friends
of St. Peter’s,

When you read these words, my family and I will be in Germany, catching up with family for the first time in 15 months. When you read these words, one of the major Christian Holidays of the year, Pentecost, will already be over.

We are usually more involved at Christmas and Easter, but I think, Pentecost is also very important for our daily walk as Christians:

John 15:26
I will send you the Spirit who comes from the Father and shows what is true. The Spirit will help you and will tell you about me.

This is essential for us! The Holy Spirit, which came over the disciples on Pentecost has since moved and touched Christians. And even today, we can ask the Holy Spirit for guidance and help. The Holy Spirit can, if we ask:

  • Open our hearts to passages of the Holy Scriptures
  • Open our mouths to speak the right words in difficult situations
  • Strengthen our faith in times of doubts
  • Help us to forgive and to ask for forgiveness
  • Move us to acts of Christian love and understanding

We need the Holy Spirit! Let us pray for his presence in our lives with words by Stan Arney:

What is the Holy Spirit and how does it affect me
Is it something I can hear, touch, taste, smell or see!

How do I know of its’ existence, is it even real
I just want to know if it is something I can feel

The Holy Spirit is the helper that Jesus has sent
To those who accept Christ as Savior and repent
The Holy Spirit comes to dwell in your heart with your soul

It fills a place that has long been empty and makes you whole

When you accept Christ as your Lord and Savior
Many life-altering changes will quickly occur
You will have a desire to do what God asks of you

An overwhelming feeling of peace will consume you!

As you study His Word, even more will be revealed!

He will provide you with protection, your armor and shield God will also empower you to complete His task!

If you have any questions, simply turn to Him and ask!

You will have to submit your life to God, which may seem tough - Don’t be afraid to let God know if you have had enough - God will never give you more than He knows you can bear!

He cheers with you in triumph and hurts with you in despair!

The Holy Spirit is your guide, but also your conscience!

Follow God’s statutes and commandments with self-confidence!

This means sharing God’s promise of salvation with the Lost!

With help from the Holy Spirit they received at Pentecost!

The Holy Spirit affects all senses and it is real and since you have accepted Christ, it is something you can feel!

May you abide in Jesus and Jesus abide in you!

Through the Holy Spirit there is nothing you cannot do.

Looking ahead we are facing the Summer time. It is a time in which we feel even closer to the wonderful nature that surrounds us, especially if we are able to go up North to the lakes and more into the country. God has blessed us with this special time of the year, so that we can breath in, relax, warm up in the sun and listen to the birds. Let us enjoy every single day of this summer, may it be one to remember on the good side! Most of the regular activities will take a break during July and August; still we invite you to gather on the Sundays for our services and don’t forget the church picnic at the end of July. This should be great fun for ALL!

So, I wish you a wonderful, safe and blessed Summer time. May God’s spirit guide you and protect you in all of your ways!

Yours in Christ,

History of Sundays After Pentecost
©
Webmaster Files

The Feast of Pentecost was instituted, first, to oblige the Israelites to repair to the temple of the Lord, and there to acknowledge his dominion over their country, and their labors, by offering to him the first-fruits of all their harvests.  Secondly, to commemorate, and to render thanks to God for, the law given from the mount Sinai, on the fiftieth day after their coming out of Egypt.

Secondly, to commemorate, and to render thanks to God for, the law given from the mount Sinai, on the fiftieth day after their coming out of Egypt.

In Christian life Pentecost originally celebrated both the Ascension of Jesus Christ and the descent of the Holy Spirit.   In the 300's, Ascension of Jesus came to be a separate observance.  However, Pentecost remained a celebration of the gift of the Holy Spirit to the Church in fulfillment of the Promise of Jesus.

"And I will ask the Father, and He shall give you another
Advocate, to be with you forever"
(John 14:16)

The Spirit of truth will guide you into all the truth
(John 16:13)

PENTECOST
Starts May 31st - November 26th
Thanksgiving Day USA

It was a feast celebrated the fiftieth day after the sixteenth of Nisan, which was the second day of the feast of Passover (Leviticus 23:15,16). The Israelites it the feast of weeks (Exodus 34:22) because it was kept seven weeks after the Passover.
They then offered the first-fruits of their wheat harvest, which at that time was completed (Deuteronomy 16:9,10). These first-fruits consisted in two loaves of unleavened bread, of five pints of meal or 4 pounds each (Leviticus 23:16,17).

"The Pentecost"
The Christian church also celebrates the Feast of Pentecost, fifty days, or seven weeks, after the Passover, or the resurrection of Jesus.
After the ascension of Jesus, the apostles having retired to a house at Jerusalem, there they waited for the Holy Spirit, which Jesus had promised.

"The Pentecost" refers to the historical event when, according to Christian belief, the descent of the Holy Spirit —a Tran formative and profound experience, as described in the Book of Acts 2:1:—occurs:

And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. 2) And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. 3) And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. 4) And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance

SEASON OF PENTECOST
What Happened On Pentecost?

Ten days after Jesus ascended into heaven, the twelve apostles, Jesus' mother and family, and many other of His disciples gathered together in Jerusalem for the Jewish harvest festival that was celebrated on the fiftieth day of Passover. While they were indoors praying, a sound like that of a rushing wind filled the house and tongues of fire descended and rested over each of their heads.

This was the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on human flesh promised by God through the prophet Joel (Joel 2:28-29). The disciples were suddenly empowered to proclaim the gospel of the risen Christ.

They went out into the streets of Jerusalem and began preaching to the crowds gathered for the festival. Not only did the disciples preach with boldness and vigor, but by a miracle of the Holy Spirit they spoke in the native languages of the people present, many who had come from all corners of the Roman Empire.

This created a sensation. The apostle Peter seized the moment and addressed the crowd, preaching to them about Jesus' death and resurrection for the forgiveness of sins. The result was that about three thousand converts were baptized that day. (You can read the Biblical account of Pentecost in Acts 2:1-41).

WHY DO
WE CELEBRATE
PENTECOST?

Through the Word and Sacraments, the Holy Spirit gives us the power to believe and trust in Christ as our Savior. This precious gift of faith in the saving work of our Lord Jesus Christ is the reason Pentecost is the third "mega-festival" of the church and why we celebrate it with such joy and thanksgiving.

Three physical signs
occurred showing the coming
of the Holy Spirit

From: Wikipedia Encyclopedia

A. Sound of Blowing Wind

B. Vision of tongues of Fire that rested on each of them. The tongues of Fire which descend- ed on the disciples represents a the ophany (a visible manifestation of God). This is important to Christianity in that it represents the dynastic succession of power from Jesus to the Holy Spirit who guides the believers.

C. Spoke to each other in tongues/different
languages. This was important in that it was key for the spread of the gospel. The Holy Spirit acted as a translator so that as the preaching occurred everyone there comprehended the message in their own native language.

Never Too Old For Sunday School

Come on one and all
and learn Gods Love!

Every Sunday morning, the children of the parish join in the 9:30 AM Service through the Children's Sermon. They are then excused with their teachers to their respective classrooms for their lesson based on the Sunday Lectionary used in worship. Show your children your faith in God and bring them to Sunday School. It is important that our children learn about their Christian faith, they will have fun in the process and make new friends. Please be supportive of this children's ministry.

In Liebe Käthe F
und der Vorstand des Seniorenkreises

Our " Herta" puts so much thought and effort into  these studies, that it would be nice if more of you would join us.

Thank you, your support in this ministry.

“SIMPLY GIVING”
Electronic Transfers

“Simply Giving” is an automated giving program designed to help you conveniently and consistently contribute to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. Through “Simply Giving”, your offerings are made through a preauthorized withdrawal from your bank account. You determine the frequency of your automatic gift—weekly, semi-monthly or monthly—the option is yours. Your offering is deposited into the church’s bank account on the same day it is withdrawn from your account—at NO cost to you or the church.

Benefits to you and to your
Congregation

“Simply Giving” is a reliable, safe way to move your stewardship plan into action. It allows you to share your offerings through planned giving and activates your generosity into ongoing stewardship. Because your offering is given consistently, you won’t need to play “catch-up” at yearend or worry about forgotten checkbooks or missed Sunday offerings.

But you’re not the only one that benefits. Your congregation benefits from steady, more predictable revenues throughout the year, more efficient bookkeeping and greater confidence in meeting its financial commitments.

Why does Thrivent Financial for
Lutheran offer Simply Giving?

Thrivent Financial offers Simply Giving to further its mission of serving Lutheran congregations and institutions.

How do I participate?

Complete the enrollment form included in this newsletter and return it to church. If you have questions about the form please contact our Church Office at:
